VAN PATTEN, CONCORDIA
Black Creek

Concordia "Connie" Van Patten, age 91, of Black Creek passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at her home. She was born on July 19, 1918 in the Township of Deer Creek, daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Johnson) Murray.

On February 13, 1943 she was united in marriage to Delbert Van Patten. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2004. They lived on the family farm, currently in the 7th generation, in the Township of Bovina all of their 61 years of married life.

Connie was grateful to be at home surrounded by her family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers that gave her the ability to continue to enjoy being outside on the family farm near the banks of the Shioc River. She cherished her vegetable and flower gardens and the presence of the outdoors. Watching the birds and the wildlife was something she thoroughly enjoyed. She actively celebrated her last birthday on July 19th with her friends and family, even making the potato salad for her own party.

Her great granddaughters brought her incredible joy and humor.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Rick Sr.) Houterman, Black Creek; son, Douglas J. (Marilyn) Van Patten, Homer, Alaska; grandchildren: Richard Jr. (Terri) Houterman, Shiocton; Ryan (Jillene) Houterman, Greenville; great-grandchildren: Jocelyn and Jordyn Houterman, Shiocton; Rylene Houterman, Greenville; step-great-grandchildren: Tyler and Tanner; her niece Leone (Ray) Taubel, Greenville, and many more nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Rowe; 5 sisters and brothers-in-law: Myrtle (Lester) Boman, Ethel (Claude) Hurlburt, Margaret (Francis) Prunty, Elizabeth (Earl) Theede, Doris (Clarence) Witthuhn; 2 brothers: Bernard (Lucile Hanson-Brown) Murray and infant brother Walter.

Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 12 noon until services at 2 PM with Kay Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in the Bovina Cemetery on Monday, August 3, 2009 at 10 AM.
