David "Cal" J. Murphy, age 58, of Freedom, passed away on December 3, 2014 at home following a lung transplant due to pulmonary fibrosis. He was born June 18, 1956, a son of the late Ralph and Gladys (Hock) Murphy.
Cal graduated from Freedom High School in 1974. After graduating he began working at the Neenah Foundry, where he was employed until retiring as a supervisor because of his illness.
On August 24, 1974 he was united in marriage to Mary DeBruin at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, having celebrated over 40 years together.
Cal enjoyed spending time at the cabin up north, having spent a lot of time hunting, fishing, and sitting around the campfire. Over the years he traveled with Mary to many different places throughout the country.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons: Michael (Jennifer) Murphy, Maryland; and Jeffery (Rachel) Murphy, Freedom; seven grandchildren: Tyler, Ashley, Dylan, Jadin, Corbin, Leland, and Kaia; four brothers: Pat, Fond du Lac; Gary (Janice), Black Creek; Brian (Rachel), Seymour; and Scott (Jane), Freedom. Further survived by his in-laws: Helen (Ron) Meidam, Barb (Mike) Diedrick, Gloria (Ralph) Calaway, John (Diana) DeBruin, Elaine (Gary) Fleishman, Roger (Vonny) DeBruin, and Jerry (Linda) DeBruin.
In addition to his parents, Cal was preceded in death by two infant brothers: Marty and Jeff Murphy; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lloyd (Margaret) DeBruin; and brother-in-law, Harry (LaVerne) DeBruin.
Friends may call at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, on Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 11 am until the funeral mass at 1:30 pm with Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at
