David "Doc" James Fairbanks, 65, of Seymour passed away peacefully at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton on Thursday, March 22, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on June 9, 1952, son of James J. and Betty (Spires) Fairbanks, in Decatur, Illinois.
Doc taught at the Seymour High School for 34 years (1975 - 2009). He taught shop class, auto mechanics, and driver's education. He additionally coached the girls softball and basketball teams at Seymour high school for most of those years and help direct multiple school plays.
He was a very active member of the community, having served on the Seymour city council, The Home of the Hamburger committee and board of directors, as well as his long standing involvement with Seymour's Model Railroad Museum and Model Railroad Club, which were his true love and passion. Doc was also a local DJ at many local events including the Outagamie County Fair.
Doc is survived by his mother, Betty; brothers: Joel (Teresa) Fairbanks, Jeff Fairbanks, and sister, Julie Fairbanks. His father, James J. Fairbanks, preceded Doc in death in 2013.
Following Doc's wishes, private family services will take place. A memorial fund has been established in his memory to support The Home of the Hamburger program and the American Cancer Society.
