Dennis Carter

Dennis "Pete" Carter was born September 18, 1936, in Door County, WI. The tenth child of G.B. and Setta Carter. He passed away on December 23, 2021 in Antigo.

The family moved to Antigo, WI when he was four years old. He graduated from Antigo High School in 1954. He was president of the class. He joined the U.S. Navy in August 1954 and served aboard the USS Los Angles, heavy cruiser for three years and attained the rank of Gun Fire Control Technician 2nd Class.

On August 30, 1955, he married his High School sweetheart, Linda Charlene Sharp. They had three sons: David (Mary) of Seymour, WI, twins, Dean (Sonia) of Baraboo, WI, and Dane (Kaye) of Sturgeon Bay, WI.

Linda passed away in October 1998 after a bout with cancer. They had seven grandchildren: John (Nicole) Carter, Erin (Kellen) Zoellner, Daniel (Nicole) Carter, Nicholas (Ashley) Carter, Terra Carter, Samuel Carter, Katherine Carter, and 4 great-grandchildren. He is survived by a sister, Olive Carter.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Antigo. He attended the Antigo Business School and was employed as an Accountant at the Langlade County Highway Department. He worked part time at Harvey's Service Station and drove the water truck for the Antigo Rural Fire Department.

In 1965 he was hired by the FWD Corporation in Clintonville as a Cost Accountant. In 1967 he was hired as a Teller at the Clintonville National Bank. He was eventually promoted to Vice President. He served as President of the Rotary Club and President of the Businessmen's Association. He taught Church School at the Methodist Church. He and Linda sang in the church choir.

He was hired by the Farmers State Bank in Manawa as Vice President and Branch Manager to open their branch in King, WI. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Curling Club in Waupaca. When the King Branch reached a million dollars in assets the entire staff celebrated with a trip to Milwaukee for dinner and a play followed by a Brewers game the next day.

In 1975 he was hired by the Seymour State Bank as Vice President and Cashier. In Seymour he served as President of Kiwanis Club and the Business Association. He was secretary of the Seymour Economic Development Corp. He and Linda sang with the Church Choir, he was President of the Board of Trustees and a member of the Building Committee. He was also a member of the Building Committee. He was also a member of the Building Committee for the Club House at Crystal Springs Golf Course.

He graduated from Northern Michigan University School of Banking at Marquette, Michigan, and The University of Wisconsin School of Banking at Madison, Wisconsin. He earned Executive Certification from The American Institute of Banking.

He retired in 1993 as President of the Valley Bank of Seymour. At that time, he and Linda moved to their beloved cottage on Pine Lake at Hiles in Forest County. He served as a weather reporter with the National Weather Service for the Hiles area. He also wrote the Hiles news column for The Forest Republican.

At their 45th class reunion he started dating Dorothy Wilceuslsi Gallenberg who lost her husband to cancer. They were united in marriage in 2001, and in 2002 they built a house in Happy Trails Resort in Surprise, Arizona. They spent winter in Arizona until travel became too difficult. While in Arizona they enjoyed visits from the kids and other classmates.

Dennis attended St. Hyacinth and St. Wencel Catholic Church with Dorothy.

In addition to his wife, Linda, he was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and four sisters.

According to Dennis' wishes a private family service will take place in Spring 2022.
