Donald "Farmer" Foley, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at his home.
Don was born on July 14, 1958 to the late Harold and Marie (Wroblewski) Foley. He was raised on the family farm in Seymour and graduated from Seymour High School in May 1976. He worked at Shiocton Lumber, Fort Howard/Fort James/Georgia Pacific paper mill, farmed the family farm since 1979, and retired from Georgia Pacific after 31 1/2 years of service.
Don's lifelong passion was farming, taking care of his animals, working the fields and harvesting the crops. He also focused on raising grass-fed beef cattle and chickens. He enjoyed sharing his chicken eggs, rhubarb and Halloween pumpkins.
He earned a certification to be a Certified Organic Farm for a period of time which helped him learn and understand many sustainable techniques to naturally increase crop production. He was always willing to share his knowledge with farmers and others interested in learning.
Don made friends everywhere he went. Friends described him as nice, friendly, warm, kind and a crazy guy with a spirit that will be with us forever. He touched many people's lives and friends will miss hearing his laughter. Helping out is truly who he was, and he worked helping others until the end. He was known for joking around with this "quirky" sense of humor and many enjoyed their conversations with him, especially over a Miller Lite. The neighbors already miss seeing him drive by every day and comment that the neighborhood will not be the same. He was a well-loved, caring friend to the Seymour and surrounding communities.
