Doris Irene (Nelson) Wussow, age 99 passed away peacefully Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. She was born March 5, 1910 in the town of Cicero to the late Nels and Luella (Shepherd) Nelson. She graduated from Seymour High School and in 1930 received her bachelor Degree from Oshkosh State Teachers' College.
She taught in area schools for thirty-one years, the last one being Rock Ledge School where she taught first grade several years prior to her retirement in 1975. Doris was united in marriage to Orville Wussow on October 7, 1944. They farmed in the town of Cicero until 1960 when they sold the farm and moved to Seymour.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Outagamie Retired Educators' Association, Wisconsin Retired Educators' Association and Senior Citizens of Seymour and Vicinity. Doris enjoyed gardening, crocheting, traveling and socializing with her friends and family.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean (Robert) Heidt, Bloomington, IN and a son, Lynn (Mary) Wussow, Appleton; also her granddaughters, Lianna and Holly Heidt and grandsons: Travis, Andy and Danny Wussow, Appleton; sisters-in-law: Geri Nelson, Des Moines, IA; Sylvia Nelson, Armstrong Creek; Ernestine Nelson, Bullhead City, AZ; Eleanor Dillinger, Appleton, Lucille Wendt, Seymour; Aileen Wussow, Plano, TX; one brother-in-law: Carl Wussow, Oceanside, CA; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orville in 1999, her parents, her three brothers, Norman, Lowell and Donald Nelson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Agnes Nelson, Loraine Koch, Dorothy Wussow, Verona Rusch, Tony Dillinger, Roy Krahn, Carl Rusch, Alvin Wendt, Norman Wussow, Orvel Koch.
Friends may call at United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 4 PM until the time of service at 7 PM with Pastor Rebecca Henry officiating. Burial in Highland Memorial Park.
