Dorothy "Dort" J. Schmidt, 86, of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 peacefully with her family by her side. She was born December 2, 1928 a daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie (Van Asten) Vosters.
She was united in marriage to Paul Schmidt on February 20, 1950 at St. John's Catholic Church in Little Chute. Paul preceded her in death on April 5, 1994.
Dorothy and Paul farmed in the Town of Osborn for many years. While on the farm Dorothy also operated "DJ's Costume Shop" and was known for her excellent sewing abilities and creativity with Halloween costumes.
She enjoyed spending time with her family at her cottage in Rosholt playing sheepshead and having Old Fashions on the pontoon boat. In her earlier years Dorothy enjoyed snowmobiling as a member of the Dairyland Snowmobile Club, and square dancing. Dorothy volunteered for many years at St. Vincent DePaul in Green Bay. She also enjoyed the companionship of her Chihuahuas.
Dorothy's grandchildren were her pride and joy. She took every opportunity possible to spend time with them.
She is survived by her children: Helen Tilkens, Green Bay; Tom (Patti) Schmidt, Seymour; Paula J. Schmidt, Kimberly; Dee (John) Nagel, Seymour; Mary (Pat) Guyette, Black Creek; Sally (Rick) Rohm, Black Creek; Sue (Jerry) Cismoski, New London; and Louis (Mary Jo) Schmidt, Seymour; 17 grandchildren: Scott, Todd, Kristi, Kimberly, Jamie, Justin, Alyssa, Natalie, Ashley, Ryan, David, Luke, Mark, John, Jeni, Bryan, and Paul; and 7 great-grandchildren. Further survived by a sister, Sister Mary Vosters, Racine; 2 brothers: Thomas (Donna) Vosters, Kimberly; and Leo (Margie) Vosters, Little Chute; sisters-in-law, Doris, Margie, and Percy Vosters.
In addition to her parents and husband, Paul, Dorothy was preceded in death by two sons: Paul "Joe" and David; grandson, Joseph; siblings: Catherine, Walter, Louis, Lawrence, John, Butch, Norbert, Margaret, and Joseph.
Friends may call at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Seymour on Monday, June 15, 2015 from 9 a.m. until the funeral mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Bob Kabat officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Dorothy's memory.
