Edward Gonnering

November 26, 1944 — September 22, 2022

Edward Francis Gonnering, 77, of Oneida, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, September 22, 2022. He was born on November 26, 1944, a son of the late Lawrence and Alice (Van Thiel) Gonnering. Ed was a 1963 graduate of Freedom High School. He was united in marriage to Judith Peterson on May 15, 1965, at Immaculate Conception Church in Oneida. Ed was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom.

He worked at Thilmany's Paper Mill for 43 years until his retirement in 2007. Ed also farmed part-time for 20 years. His greatest passion in life was spending time with his family; he enjoyed all of the holiday parties, birthday parties, and family get togethers. Ed always looked forward to playing Sheepshead with his family and watching the Packers. He was a jokester and enjoyed laughing. Ed also liked watching "The Price is Right" and "Wheel of Fortune." He had a passion for hunting and fishing, especially bow hunting. Ed found peace drinking coffee or a cold beer. He also made sure there was corn for the birds, squirrels, and rabbits every day.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Gonnering; five children: Dave Gonnering, Jim (Mindi) Gonnering, Sherry (Glenn) Strzelecki, Joseph (Stacy) Gonnering, and Ed "Eddie" (Angie) Gonnering; 11 grandchildren: Joey, Will, and Katie Sue Gonnering, Ben, Emily, and Alyssa Gonnering; Sam and Dan Strzelecki, Jacob and Tom Gonnering, and Kenzie Gonnering; siblings: Mary Nel (Roland) Hermes, Judy Marchant Gonnering, Jerome "Jerry" (Jan) Gonnering, Frank (Betty) Gonnering, and Betty Ann (Jon) Pengelly; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Louis (Ann) Peterson, Mary Ann Van Gheem, Gordon Peterson, Orin (Jeanne) Peterson, Nancy Jansen, Betty (Frank) Gonnering, and Joanne (Gail) Helke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orin Sr. and Johanna (Van Kauwenberg) Peterson, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Joe Gonnering, Sylvester Gonnering, and Larry Gonnering; three brothers-in-law: Donald (Mabel) Peterson, Jack Van Gheem, and Jim Jansen; and one sister-in-law, Mary Peterson.
