Elizabeth Schroeder

d. July 28, 2021

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Vande Burgt) Schroeder, age 83, was surrounded by her loving family when she walked into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

She was the daughter of the late Martin and Hendricka Vande Burgt. Born October 9, 1937 in Appleton, WI. Betty was united in marriage to the love of her life, Harvey A. Schroeder on April 27, 1957. Together they raised five children. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2011.

Betty wore many hats throughout her life. First a daughter and sister, then wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Betty and Harvey owned a bar/supper club in Dale. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and also enjoyed going to The Community Bible Church. She was also a big part of the Salvation Army, member of the Black Creek Lions Club, member of the Seymour Auxiliary, 4-H leader and Homemakers club. When her children were younger she was a Girl Scout leader. She held many jobs over the years, worked as a cook at supper clubs, Seymour High School, the Cheese Factory in Seymour, owned a ceramic shop and cleaned houses. Betty was named outstanding citizen of Black Creek.

Her favorite past time in life was having her family and friends around, with a big family breakfast, holiday meals, and mostly spending Christmas as a family. Her second joy in life was helping people and volunteering. She loved to embroider towels for her family and friends. Another favorite thing was playing cards or games. She enjoyed reading out of the bible and sitting outside smelling flowers.

Betty is survived by her children: Paul (Georgia) Schroeder, Jeff (Mary Beth) Schroeder, Cindy (Daniel) Meulemans, Nancy (Dennis) Vande Walle, Tim (Therese) Schroeder.
