Elwyn Blackford Staley, age 97, of Seymour passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014. Elwyn was born on August 25, 1917 at Belleville, WI to Wallace and Mozelle (Blackford) Staley, the 4th of 5 children. He was united in marriage to Ruth Powell on March 22, 1941. Elwyn and Ruth celebrated 72 years of marriage before Ruth's death in 2013.
After high school Elwyn traveled with a show herd of Jersey cattle by train. Later, he took milk samples in Shawano and Outagamie Counties. Elwyn loved farming and farm life. The farm has been in the family for 130 years.
He managed the Outagamie County Central DHIA for about 8 years. Elwyn was an officer and member of the Outagamie County Farm Bureau, the county and state Holstein Breeders and was active in 4-H and the county fair.
Elwyn liked to play cards, watch sports (especially the Packers) and spend time with his family, friends, and neighbors. He was a very gentle and kind man and was loved greatly by his family and friends.
Elwyn will be greatly missed by a son, Allyn (Bridget) Staley, Seymour; a daughter, Diane Beyer, Manawa; 5 grandchildren: Clinton (Kim) Beyer, Scott Staley (friend Theresa), Ross Beyer, Greg (Wendy) Staley and Karen (David) Weber; 2 step-grandchildren, Matthew and Alan McBee; 4 great-grandchildren: Kora, Mason and Nash Staley and Calleigh Beyer; 2 step-great grandchildren, Kaelyn and Lynnex McBee; many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Elwyn was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Kenn Beyer; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law: Ivan (Oral) Staley, Arleigh (Marguarite) Staley, and Garth (Phyllis) Staley; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille (Burgess) Behnke; 4 brothers-in-law: Seldon (Alice) Powell, Lester (Daisy) Powell, Gordon (Mary) Powell, and Arland Powell.
A visitation for family and friends will be at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at noon with Eugene Moerschel officiating. Burial will take place in the Seymour City Cemetery.
Elwyn's family would like to thank Dr. James Mariano of Appleton Heart Institute for his many years of excellent care of Elwyn.
