Gene R. Barlament, 95, of the Town of Oneida, passed away on January 23, 2025. He was born June 4, 1929 in Green Bay, WI to Harry and Alvina (Peisar) Barlament and grew up on their farm on Velp Ave. in the Village of Howard. He was a graduate of Green Bay West High School.
Gene served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1948-1951, was a naval reservist, and served two years on active duty as a radio man in the US Navy from 1952-1954. In the fall of 1952 he served aboard the U.S.S. Great Sitkin on a cruise to Europe. In 1953 he cruised to Cuba and Hispanola aboard the U.S.S. Shenandoah, returning on the U.S.S. Everglades.
On October 8, 1955 he was united in marriage to Doris Jean Meyer in Neenah, WI. Together they raised 3 daughters. In 1969 they purchased their property in Oneida and started Barlament Gardens, growing vegetables and pick your own strawberries. Gene was a lifelong beekeeper, harvesting his last honey crop at age 94. Doris preceded Gene in death on May 22, 1985.
Gene had many hobbies and interests including travel, Civil War history, genealogy, music, aviation, antique cars, hunting, and target shooting. He was a charter member of the Fort Oneida Muzzleloaders club, and made many good friends in that group.
On December 6, 1986 Gene married Lois (Burkel) Dickinson in Seymour, WI. They spent over 38 years together, enjoying old car shows, traveling, and watching the wildlife in their yard.
Gene is survived by his wife Lois, daughters Nancy (Alan) Stafford, Jane M. Barlament, and Julie (David) Neal; grandchildren Lisa (DJ) Ison, Sally Stafford, Brenda (Clint) Gaston, Josephine Barlament, Jacklyn (Brandon) Lemke, Jared Barlament, Emily (Brandon) Schuhmacher, and Louis Neal; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister Janet McRae, step-daughters Pam (Bob) Rosinsky, Lori (Mark) Kulju, and Jill (Joe) Frenette; 4 step-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents, and sister Ruth Muir.
Funeral services for Gene will be held at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home on Saturday February 15th at 3:00 PM with Pastor Gail Ray officiating. Memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of services. Gene will be laid to rest privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muehl Public Library in Seymour or the Fort Oneida Muzzleloaders.
