Giles "Zip" Rawling, 75, of 2411 Airport Avenue, Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. Pastor Vance Underwood will officiate. Giles was born January 20, 1935 in Milwaukee to Wellington and Marie (Schmidt) Rawling. He married Ruthmary Weigel in 1957 in Wisconsin Rapids. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Giles served his country as a member of the Army National Guard and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for FF Mengel and Mann Brothers until his retirement. He was a member of the Rudolph Tractor Club and Local Union 139. He had a love for farming and restoring tractors. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and loved to watch local high school sports, hardly ever missing a game. Giles also had a love for animals, especially his dogs Norman and Shay and the kitties. Giles is survived by five children: Kandace (Sandy) Rawling of Milwaukee, Sandra (Bo) Ceplina of Wisconsin Rapids, Edwina (Mark) Anderson of Wisconsin Rapids, Joanne (Jay) North of Wisconsin Rapids, and Dawn Rawling of Wisconsin Rapids; five grandchildren: Kevin Brylski and Kasey Brylski of Eau Claire, Erik Rawling of Florida, Alyssa North of Eau Claire, and Adam North of Wisconsin Rapids; and two brothers: Ed (Fern) Rawling of Black Creek, WI and John (Ruth) Rawling of Hastings, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joel. Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday.
