Glen "Bear" McClone, 76, of Seymour, WI passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and kids. He was born in Appleton to Aloysius and Leona (Werner) McClone on June 12, 1948.
To some he was Glen, but to most he was "Bear", a name given to him in high school that carried on throughout life. And to a special few, he was Grandpa Bear.
Bear graduated from Seymour High School in 1965 and following graduation he enlisted in the Army Reserves in Appleton.
He married Karla Schmit on September 14, 1973 at St. John the Baptist in Seymour. Their love for each other is stronger now than the day they got married.
Those who knew Bear well knew that he had a very strong work ethic which dates back to Harry Bluma's gas station where he got his start. He moved on to work at Firestone Tires and then operated his own bulk milk truck. He ended his career at UPS where he was a loyal employee for 33 years earning several safe driving achievements including the Circle of Honor Award.
He proudly served the city of Seymour as an EMT. Bear was very proud to be one of the first EMT's in Seymour with his state license number of 4630. He retired from the Seymour Fire Department after 25 years of service from 1973-1996.
To Bear, his family was his life and he worked so hard to give them the opportunities he never had. Bear and Karla have two children: Molly Salentine and Matt McClone. Their spouses, Mike Salentine and Bambi McClone are often referred to as Bear's favorite children. While often said to get a laugh it was really a reflection of how Bear loved who his children loved. However, nothing could put a glow on Bear's face like the sight of his grandkids: Mitchell, Maya and Nolan Salentine.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karla; daughter, Molly (Mike) Salentine of Muskego, WI; and son, Matt (Bambi) McClone of Twinsburg, OH; grandchildren: Mitchell, Maya, and Nolan Salentine. He is further survived by his sister, Anita (Chuck) Durand; sister-in-law, Linda McClone; Karla's family: Jim (Patty) Schmit, John (Heather) Schmit, Joe (Laura) Schmit, Katye (Chris) Charlier, Kris (Joe) Lenertz, and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alan McClone; in-laws: Elmer and Dorothy Schmit.
Visitation for Bear will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 1:00 pm until the commemoration ceremony at 4:00 pm.
A sincere and special thank you to the staff at St. Mary's Hospital. From the ER staff, to the ICU staff, to the 5th floor staff, the care that Bear received during his final days were nothing but special. He was so well taken care of. The staff were able to create special moments and memories for us that will always be cherished and remembered.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bear's name will be made to support the city departments he served.
