We are sad to announce the passing of Glenn R. Tank of Black Creek, Wisconsin. He died at the age of 85 on September 26, 2023, with Cindy, his wife of thirty years, by his side.
Semper Paratus - always ready - is the Coast Guard's motto, and that motto was one that Glenn lived by throughout his life.
Glenn was born in Green Bay on January 28, 1938. At the young age of 17, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard, ready to serve his country. The time he spent serving helped Glenn develop the strong patriotic values he exhibited throughout the remainder of his years.
Glenn's favorite job was driving a truck which gave him an opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a big rig, a chance to meet people along the road, and time to gather unique experiences. Glenn participated in Trucker Buddy through which he was a pen pal with students in Japan and Saudi Arabia. He loved sharing stories with the students about places he had visited. Truck driving was not a job. It was a joy!
All of his experiences made Glenn a jack of all trades and a captivating storyteller. Woodworking, collecting, and restoring antique cars were some of his loves. Many friends and family benefited from Glenn's generosity and his talents. Whether at the gym or at a counter in a favorite restaurant, Glenn could spend hours regaling his listeners with humorous anecdotes, including memories of his Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Glenn's love of storytelling resulted in many new friendships and relationships that were deep and long lasting.
One last adventure allowed Glenn to cross a dream off his bucket list. When a good friend and neighbor just recently broached the idea of a trip, Glenn was off to California. This time on the road again brought him great happiness.
Glenn will be greatly missed by the one he loved the most - his wife Cindy - and their families and friends. A neighbor and friend put all of our feelings into words when she wrote, "I don't know how to sum up how much I am going to miss this gentleman. A better neighbor couldn't be had. Always there to help. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. If he couldn't find a fix for something, it most likely couldn't be fixed. A proud veteran, trucker and car enthusiast. Rest in peace, neighbor."
Heaven is ready. Semper Paratus.
Visitation will be at Meuhl-Boettcher Funeral Home in Seymour on October 2nd from 9-11 a.m. A short service with military honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Wounded Warrior in Glenn's name are appreciated.
