Haze Sidney Diemel Jr., 86, Town of Maine, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022. He was born on July 23, 1935, to the late Haze Sr. and Adeline (Bednarz) Diemel. He was united in marriage to Mary Peeters on April 26, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bear Creek. Haze was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and he proudly served his country from 1954-1957.
Haze worked as an operating engineer for Local 139 for many years. He and Mary also owned and operated Diemel's Resort for 30 years until their retirement in 2002. Haze was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting and playing Sheepshead. In his younger years, he enjoyed ski jumping, and belonged to the Navarino Ski Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Diemel; five children: Douglas (Barb) Diemel, Diane (Gary) Shepard, Dan Diemel, Denise (Keith) Clegg, Doreen (Jerry) Van Handel; nine grandchildren: Douglas Jr. (Ginger) Diemel, Jennifer (Josh) Tabbert, Kristy (Tim) Pigott, Angela (Tom) Nuebert, Aly Clegg, Abby Clegg (special friend, Hunter Muthig), Landyn Van Handel, Amber Van Handel (special friend, Kyle Larsen), and Koltyn Van Handel; 15 great-grandchildren: Annika Diemel, Isaiah, Noah, Bella, Sam, and Ben Tabbert, Khailee, Khiara, and Karley Pack, Kinleigh, Ayeleigh, and Tucker Pigott, Austyn and Ashlee Neubert, Haze Larsen, and another great-grandson on the way; four step grandchildren: Dennis (Abby) Seelow, Aaron (Niki) Seelow, Joe (Tori) Bloechl, and Sheyenne Pigott; eight step great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Joseph Stilen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Haze was preceded in death by his sister, Marcille Stilen.
Visitation will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022, Pastor Moira Finley officiating. Military honors by the Krause-Kraft-Mueller American Legion Post #106 will follow.
The family extends a special thanks to the staffs of Edenbrook of Appleton, Care Partners in Clintonville, and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their compassionate care.
