Herbert F. Vande Corput, "Mr. Fabricator", age 77, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2007. He was born a twin in 1930 to the late John and Adrianna (Vander Klindert) Vande Corput in Isaar. In his youth Herb worked on the family farm. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. He returned from war in 1953 and drove truck and worked as a cheese maker for Pul's Cheese Factory and Consolidated Badger Co-op in Seymour.
On June 9, 1956 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Palmer, in Neenah. Together they farmed in rural Seymour. In 1965 he was the President of the Young Farmers Club. In 1966 he was awarded the Jaycee's Outagamie County's Outstanding Young Farmer award and in 1968 he proudly received the Neat Farmstead Award. Herbert was a Director of the Outagamie County Soil Improvement Association for many years. He attended Appleton Vocational School for 4 years and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Seymour; the Knights of Columbus; a member of the Seymour VFW and American Legion Post #106.
After his retirement from farming, in 1974, he went to work for Landwehr Materials Stone Quarry as a crusher operator, and later as a welder/fabricator. He retired in 1993 to open his own welding and fabrication shop at his home. He worked for numerous area farmers, businesses, neighbors and friends. He closed his shop in 2001, due to illness.
Herb is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; his children: Sandy (Ken) Hill, Isaar; Bruce (Tammy), Wrightstown; Chuck, Green Bay; Gina Gipp (special friend, Doug), Seymour; his grandchildren: Eric Alsteen, Kendal and Mckenna Gipp; step- grandchildren, Jared and Jeremy Hendricks; his brothers and sisters, Marie Hietpas, Kaukauna; Josephyn (Mike) Henn, Seymour; Dorothy (Marcus) Roskom, Little Chute; Joe (Laverne) Vande Corput, Pulaski; John (Peggy) Vande Corput, Seymour; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Fred (Carol) Palmer, Owatonna, Minn.; Alfred (Delores) Palmer, Neenah; Sue Palmer, Kaukauna; Sylvia Vande Corput, Seymour; and Kay Vande Corput, Isaar.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Frank (Esther) Vande Corput, Anna Rutledge, Augusta (Ben) Schweiner, Margaret (Ernest) Janssen, Cecelia (Lawrence) Waller, Martin (Kathryn) Vande Corput, Norbert "Nubbs" Vande Corput (his twin brother), and his brothers-in-law, Joe Hietpas and Lyle Palmer.
Friends may call at the Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, 358 S. Main St., Seymour, on Thursday, July 26, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m.; with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 27, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Seymour from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Father Bob Kabat celebrating. Dad lived by his motto, "If it's hard, I'll fix it right away; if it's impossible, it may take me a little longer."
