Irene A. (Hill) Wandke, 94, of Seymour passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born December 19, 1917 in Stone County, Minnesota, daughter of the late Guy Bert Hill and Martha Floy (Stanley) Hill. On October 15, 1938 she married Stanley H. Wandke in Seymour. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1984.
She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour where she was active with the quilters for decades.
Irene worked for Huth-Ebert Insurance, now known as Truyman-Haase-Zahn Insurance, for 37 years before retiring in 1987.
Irene volunteered with the food pantry for many years. She enjoyed being outdoors gardening, bird watching, reading, sewing, crafts, and canning. Irene was especially known for her dill pickles. She also exercised at the Seymour Aquatic Center weekly for many years until recently. Irene especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Irene is survived by one son, Gale F. (Bonnie) Wandke of New London, and one daughter, Audrey E. (Leonard) Brault of Coleman. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Craig S. (Jody) Brault, Suring; Diane L. Hartman, Peshtigo; Sue E. (Ray) Martin, Peshtigo; Lisa M. (Fred) Anderson, Portland, OR; and Sara L. (Scott) Radtke, Appleton. Further survived by ten great-grandchildren: Amy (Bill) Seefeldt, Amber Hartman, Tyler Hartman, Courtney Martin, Madison Martin, Eliza Brault, Zoe Brault, Hannah Radtke, Alexander Radtke, and Grace Anderson; three great-great-grandchildren: Paige E. Radzinski, Hunter W. Seefeldt, and Lily Seefeldt. She is also survived by one brother, Paul (Julia) Hill of Green Bay, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen (Fabian) Treml; two brothers: James Hill and Dean (Frances) Hill; two great-grandchildren: Chad S. Nelson and Jacob M. Brault.
Friends may call at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM with Pastor Roland Lindeman officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at
