James Olson

James "Jim" Olson, born August 6, 1944 at home in Oneida, WI, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital from complications of Pancreatic Cancer. Surrounded by his family at his side whom he cared for deeply.

Jim grew up on the family dairy farm, farming alongside his parents, Harry and Anna (VandeBruggen) Olson. After school he started farming with his parents on their farm. He married his friend and love of his life Mary Vanden Langenberg on October 7, 1967. Jim and Mary farmed together while raising their family. He taught his children how to work together both on the farm and in the community. He was a charter member of the Oneida Volunteer Fire Dept. serving for 47 years; acting fire chief for 8 years.

He had great respect for all things GREEN, both raising crops and driving tractors. Many hours were spent on his John Deere tractors both on his own farm and for J&G Custom Farming, working alongside his sons and grandsons. He especially enjoyed restoring and displaying his antique John Deere tractors and equipment. He greatly enjoyed the comradery with all the other farmers.

Another favorite past time of Jim's was his pond. Fishing with the family, watching grandkids swim in the summer, skating during pond hockey in the winter, or just sitting with Mary watching the sunset together.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Olson; children: Brenda (Steve), Chet (Kim), Glen (Jolleen), Gary (Pam), Kurt (Joann), Lynnette (Justin); grandchildren: Levi, Kaitlyn, Anna (Joe), Taylor, Riley, Alyssa, Sarah, Brent and Jocelyn; great-granddaughter, Hazleigh; siblings: Hank (Dorothy) Olson, Chummy (Bonnie) Lambie; in-laws: John (Linda) Vanden Langenberg, Dick (Carol) Vanden Langenberg, Chris (Jill) Vanden Langenberg; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: Norb and Huntz Vanden Langenberg; siblings, Alvin (Ole) Olson, MaryJane Lambie; in-laws: Myron and Kathy Caelwaerts.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida, from 9:00 am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am with Fr. Paul Paider officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jim's name for the Oneida Fire Department memorial wall in honor of past firefighters.
