James "Jim" M. Schoen, 80, of Seymour passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 1, 2024. He was born on December 16, 1943 son of the late Merrill "Mike" and Helen (Franckowiak) Schoen.
He was united in marriage to Carla DeVleeshower on May 30, 1964 and the couple celebrated 56 years together. The newly united couple lived in Appleton for a few years before moving back to Jim's hometown of Seymour where they remained until their passings. Carla preceded Jim in death on January 4, 2021.
Jim started his working career as a typesetter, learning the unique keyboard of the lithotype machine quite quickly. He then followed his father's footsteps and learned refrigeration. He later bought back his father's refrigeration business, Schoen's Refrigeration, which he operated until his retirement.
Jim thoroughly enjoyed all of the time he spent up north at Crane Lake and Lily Lake. His passion for being a sportsman showed through his love for hunting, fishing, and spending a lot of his time outdoors. He put on many miles walking the woods searching for wild ginseng, and was a true steward of the land.
He was an experienced cribbage and sheepshead player, was known as a storyteller, and enjoyed a good old fashioned.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Mark) Elsner; his son, John (Karen) Schoen; his grandchildren: Aisling (Jared) Lessor, Whittney (Zach) Willms, Luke (Georgia Lynn) Elsner, and Emily Schoen; his three great-grandchild: Rory Lynn Lessor, Teaken Adam Elsner, and Ryder Jameson Lessor; sister, Shirley (Robert) Doepker; special friend and companion, Elizabeth Decker; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation for Jim will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 4:00 pm until the funeral service at 6:00 pm with Pastor Ty Stoneburner officiating. Interment will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Seymour.
