Jan "Berdie" Frion (nee Bertha Jan Summers)
Oneida, WI
Jan passed peacefully on November 20th, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 2, 1936, to the late Milton and Mildred (James) Summers. Jan married the late Eugene Frion on July 7th, 1962, together they had two children, Matt and Mary.
For most of Jan's professional life, she was employed at the Chrysler Corporation in Baseline, MI, and supported the government contracts for the Redstone and Jupiter Missiles programs. After completing that assignment, Jan returned to Milwaukee, where she worked for the Culter-Hammer Corporation. In 1976, Jan began a new career with the IBM Corporation in Green Bay, WI, retiring in 1991.
Jan enjoyed listening to the music of Johnny Cash, Tanya Tucker, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Proud Mary, and Texas (When I die) were favorite songs of hers. She also enjoyed listening and singing along with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir during the holidays.
Jan and her family had a large garden. One of her favorite things was to pluck a young onion plant from the garden, hose it off, and eat it raw with the top still attached. Jan was also accomplished at making Oneida corn soup. There were many days when the aroma permeated throughout the house. Friends and family would stop in to enjoy and she would divvy up the leftovers and deliver throughout Oneida. She would also make her famous chili for the "guys" after Packer's home games. This became a ritual especially during cold games when the guys would look forward to Jan's chili after a win.
More recently Jan looked forward to lunches at El Azteca and Perkins, but by far her favorite was the chicken dumpling soup and a slice of carrot cake from the Golden Basket. Jan enjoyed frequent rides from the Oneida Aging & Disability Services staff and especially enjoyed her adventures to the Dollar Tree to search the aisles for a "deal". She also loved apples from the Oneida Apple Orchard, so much so that she held on to one for comfort to the end.
Jan also loved it when her grandson Jon and wife Sereen, and the step-great and great, great grandkids, would visit and have pizza. Kingston, her step-great grandson would visit often to play board games, assist with chores, and accompany her on the Oneida Public Transit to Walmart. Jan was one who would both give and take jokes to make us all laugh, she will be remembered for that for sure.
Jan is survived by her children: Matthew Frion, La Quinta, CA, Mary (Todd) Graves, Green Bay, WI; three grandsons: Jon (Sereen) Frion, Green Bay, WI, Connor Kestell, Green Bay, WI, Justin Welton, Ankeny, IA. Siblings: Noel Cleven, Oneida, WI, Arvilla Summers, Orem, UT, Lynn (Claire) Summers, Oneida, WI, and Philip (Theresa) Summers, Phoenix, AZ, Step great grandchildren: Monte Powless-Perez, Adonte Mercado, and Kingston Pamonicutt, and her buddy Landyn Jordan.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; siblings: Amanda Summers, Ella Sauer, Lavinia Metoxen, Rita Summers, Emaline Schultz, Milton "Tony" Summers, and Lou Anne Green.
The family thanks the Oneida Aging & Disability Services staff for their friendship and kindness to Jan and the Unity Hospice staff for their care to support Jan on her journey.
