Janet Wilson

April 10, 1923 — May 14, 2021

Janet Wilson, 98, passed Friday, May 14, 2021 at Bellin Hospital.

Born April 10, 1923, Janet was the daughter of Henry and Delia (Sanger) Umnus of Cooperstown, Wisconsin. As a young woman, she worked various jobs, including at a factory making tables for the military. She met Raymond Wilson at the Happy Holzem's Ballroom in Mill Center and they married on June 2, 1945

Janet and Ray farmed in Mill Center; they paid off that farm the first year by growing cabbage which was purchased by the military for the troops in World War II. In 1947, they moved north of Seymour near Isaar to a larger farm. In 1953, they also purchased a milk route.

After working two strenuous jobs for five years, in 1958 they purchased a farmette in Seymour where they raised their three children and lived for many years.

Janet was the heart of the home, baking endless loaves of homemade bread, cooking delicious meals for some picky eaters and always making a dessert, even if it was only cookies.

She babysat, played with grandchildren, kept a garden and raised beautiful flowers, a love she passed onto her two daughters. She loved to shop and could shop until her younger companions dropped, and always looked stylish and up to date.

Janet perfected the art of quilling, taking tiny pieces of paper and creating beautiful flowers and birds. First, she did keepsake wedding invitations, then branched out to pictures and cards.

After Ray retired, they started making birdhouses and other woodworking projects. Ray made them, and Janet painted them. They also had many years of enjoyment at their cabin on Pecor Lake. Janet loved to fish.

Janet is survived by sister-in-law Isabelle; children: Laurie Metoxen, Dave (Kathy) Wilson, Sally (Al) Wagner; grandchildren: Jennifer (Roger) Daffinson, Dan (Kim) Metoxen, Katie (Scott) Beilke, Tom (Breiann) Metoxen; great-grandchildren: Allison Eick, Nikki (Nic) Smith, Kylie Beilke, Jaina and Jacelyn Metoxen, Miles and Maisie Metoxen; great-great-grand daughter, Krystal Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ray in November 2013, and a brother Harold.
