Joan Gritt

Joan Theresa Gritt (Wagner) age 84 died peacefully Wednesday, May16, 2018, at 11:30 pm at Cedar Community Senior Living Center West Bend, Wisconsin. Joan T. Gritt was born June 7, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Arthur and Zelpha Gritt.

The Gritt family purchased a farm in Black Creek, Wisconsin and moved their nine children there. Joan attended Shiocton High School and Stout University earning a B.A. in Home Economics. That is where she met her future husband William Jerome Wagner of Green Bay Wisconsin. They had three sons William Michael Wagner (Mike), Mark Allen Wagner (Mark), and Robert Martin Wagner (Marty). Bill and Joan Wagner moved their family to Big Cedar Lake where the boys attended the Slinger School System.

Joan furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee earning a Masters Degree in Educational Administration. She worked at Shorewood High School, Pewaukee High School and Oconomowoc High School in the Guidance Department.

Joan enjoyed her summers on the lake boating and watching the boys waterski. Joan had a love for the water and Coca-Cola which she was rarely without. Joan also enjoyed spending time with family and singing in the Choir at church. She later bought a home in Port St. Lucie, Florida where she continued to teach and earned a P.H.D. in Psychology from California Coast University. She also acted as caregiver to her father and mother before their passing. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and spending time in her pool or on the beach.

She is survived by her three sons: Mike (Jan) Wagner, Marty (Connie) Wagner, and Mark (Kristi) Wagner; grandsons: Zachary, Trevon; siblings: George (Carolyn) Gritt, Jeanne O'Hara, David (Betty) Gritt and Thomas (Sue) Gritt; sister-in-law, Betty Gritt.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Zelpha; sister, Mary Gritt Lashbrook; brothers: Joseph Gritt, Bob Gritt, and Bill Gritt.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Black Creek on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:00 am with Father Theodore Hendricks officiating.

The family would especially like to thank the staff of Cedar Community for the excellent care they provided over the past 11 years.
