John Arthur Webster, 59, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 19, 2015. He was born on January 25, 1956, to Arthur "Art" and Rita (Schuyler) Webster, the oldest of 11 children. He married the love of his life, Rosalind (Charles), on November 23, 1974, at the Oneida Methodist Church. Some say it was her Firebird that first caught his attention. John graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1974.
When John was younger, he had a bit of a wild streak. He was known to tear through the reservation with friends in a rez runner with a busted transmission, driving in reverse the whole way with one friend hanging out the window to help navigate. After high school, John spent his career working at Proctor & Gamble, where he enjoyed spending time with his buddies from the mill. After retirement, he was able to spend more time with his family, especially on camping trips to Door County and hunting with his sons and brothers. He loved to cook for family gatherings and to splurge every 4th of July on a fantastic fireworks show. He looked forward to every Sunday when he would pick up his two granddaughters to bring them to church and treat them to the candy store afterward, but only if they behaved in church.
He left behind his wife of 41 years, Rosalind (Charles) Webster; his sons Steve (Becky) Webster and Tyler Webster; his two granddaughters Grace and Mia Webster; his mother Rita (Ron) Doxtater; 10 siblings: Julie (Brian) Denny, Melvin (Lori) Webster, Jean Webster, Janet (Dave) Danforth, Joan Webster, Jackie (Bill) Rice, Karl "Kool Karl" Webster, Judy Webster, Jeff Webster (Jackie), and Bill Webster (Shelly). John also left behind his Godmother, Evelyn Elm, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, including Mike Doxtator and Frank Gutierrez. Both Proctor & Gamble retirees, Mike and John talked on the phone every morning to exchange the latest gossip around town.
John was predeceased by his father, Arthur "Art" Webster; his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Josephine Webster; his maternal grandparents, Hattie and James Schuyler; his Godfather, Marty Webster; and his nephew Josh Webster.
An active member of the Oneida Methodist Church, John was the cemetery caretaker for many years and will now be laid to rest in the cemetery he cared for.
