Joy Rose (Moede) Christianson, 87, Shawano, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021. Joy was born on August 22, 1933, in the town of Maple Valley in Oconto County, to the late William and Florence (Leeman) Moede. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1951. She then graduated from teacher's college and taught elementary school for 6 years. She was united in marriage to Raymond Christianson on July 19, 1958, in Black Creek. She then discontinued teaching to raise and teach her own family.
Joy was always an active member of her community. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Navarino for many years. In the church she held many roles including Sunday school teacher, officer of the women's group, stewardship secretary, representative on the synod board and a member of the quilting group for many years. When she moved to Shawano she joined Zion Lutheran Church. She was also in the quilting group at Zion for many years.
Joy's other community involvements included 4-H leader and member of the Navarino Homemakers Club for many years. She was also a member of the Shawano County Farm Bureau.
Joy enjoyed sewing, crocheting and baking as hobbies. She exhibited her projects at the Shawano County Fair for more than 50 years earning many ribbons and a few "Best in Show" awards.
She is survived by her six children and their children: Grant (Pat) Christianson of Lily, and their children, Erin (Perry Prey) Christianson and Sam (Heidi Hietpas) Christianson, Jane Naparalla of Bonduel, and her children, Megan (Heath Hagedorn) Naparalla and Jamie (Dane Terp) Naparalla, Gregg Christianson of Navarino, Amy Hysel of LaCrosse, and her son, Alex Hysel, Paul (Lisa) Christianson of Amherst, and their children, Dustin, Drew (Caitlyn) Christianson and Dylan (Gabrielle Peterson) Christianson and Sarah (Tabb) Magee of Shawano, and their children, Ethan Magee, Emma (Uriah Williams) Magee and Eli (Abrielle Robinson) Magee. She is further survived by her great grandchildren: Emerson Prey and Makayla, Brystol, John, Berkley, Clint, Nevaeh, Brantley and Bennet Christianson.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and her siblings: Savalia Christensen, Shirley Richardson, Beatrice Hansen and Gerald Moede.
Visitation will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, 1254 S. Union Street, Shawano, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services to celebrate Joy's life at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, Pastor Scott Ludford officiating. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
