Joyce Pierre died peacefully on June 8, 2015, at the age of eighty-four at the home of her daughter Marie Koch. She was born on June 13, 1930, in the Town of Center, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, the seventh child of eight to James and Margaret (Lippert) Wittlin. She attended Sunnyside school, a one room schoolhouse, as the only child in her class. She graduated as salutatorian of the Shiocton High School class of 1948.
On June 14, 1950 she married Wayne F. Pierre at St. Patrick's Church in Stephensville, Wisconsin. After marriage, Wayne and Joyce lived and worked in North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Fond du Lac and Appleton, WI. In 1968, Wayne and Joyce moved from Appleton to Leeman, WI to own and operate Pierre's Store. In 2004, they retired and sold the business. Since that time, they have lived in Black Creek, Wisconsin and most recently lovingly cared for in Menasha, Wisconsin at the home of their daughter Marie (Craig) Koch.
Joyce is survived by her husband Wayne and their six children/spouses: Wilfred (Virginia) Pierre, Marie (Craig) Koch, Amy (Brian) Brownson, Laurie (Ralph) Fernandez, Peter (Allyson) Pierre and Jeremy (Nicole) Pierre. Sixteen have cherished her as their grandmother: Wayne (Sara) Pierre, Nicole (Lance) Hill, Susan (Kevin) Meyer, Donald Pierre, Monica (Matt) Coenen, Eric Koch, Meredith (Shiloh) Besaw, Theresa (Ross) Frey, Emily Brownson, Claire Fernandez, Joe Fernandez, Eva Fernandez, Grace Bennett-Pierre, Gabriel Pierre, Augustus Pierre and Neville Pierre. In addition Joyce is survived by ten great grandchildren: Lydia, Caleb, Ruth and Rachael Pierre, Jonas, Isaac, Johanna, and Chloe Hill, and Joel Frey. There are two more great grandchildren on the way. She is further survived by her sisters Rose Stadler, Joan (George) Pritzl, brother, Bob (Dottie) Wittlin, sisters and brothers-in laws, Winnifred (Jerry) Wittlin, Nathalie Steede, Perry (Carol) Pierre and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by an infant son Jason, four siblings, seven in-laws and two nephews.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was happiest when the family gathered around her table and she would never let anyone go hungry. She loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had plenty of wit and wisdom to get her through life, in addition to a little Irish spunk.
Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Navarino, Wisconsin, on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will continue at the church on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass to celebrate her life at 11 a.m. with Fr. Theodore Hendricks and Deacon Don Coenen officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of St. Paul's at Home and Club Gabriel, Kaukauna, and Affinity Hospice, Neenah, for the care and support provided to Joyce and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or any of the above listed worthy organizations.
