June Linsmeyer

June Marie Linsmeyer, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Meadow Wood Assisted Living in Seymour, WI.

She was born on September 26, 1929, to the late John and Tillie (Treml) Linsmeyer.

June attended Plainview Grade School until the 8th grade when she then left to work on the family farm. In her younger years she enjoyed going to dances in Isaar with her sister, Vi. She went on to work at the Seymour Canning Factory. When the canning season ended, she found work at the pickle factory in Green Bay. June was then hired at Fort Howard. After two and half years, she knew packing paper was not what she wanted to do the rest of her life and decided to enlist in the U.S. Marines Corps. She found that she needed a high school diploma in order to enlist, received her GED, and enlisted in the U.S. Marines on October 8, 1953.

As a Marine, June attended basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina. She then went to Camp Pendleton, California and from there was transferred to Pearl Harbor and Camp Smith, Hawaii. She was assigned to the Motor Pool and was proud of the fact that she kept her JEEP in tiptop shape, cleaned, and polished. Because of this, she was always chosen to drive high-ranked officers. She was honorably discharged as a Sergeant from San Francisco, California on October 7, 1956. June was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

June returned to Seymour, and she decided to go to airline school in Kansas City, Missouri at a cost of only $300. After only three days of airline school, she received a call from North Central Airlines. They were looking for someone who knew the Midwest. June learned on the job and worked for North Central Airlines in Chicago for nine months and then transferred to Green Bay. She worked out of Austin Straubel Field as an airline ticket agent. She also worked at the desk at the Northland Hotel in Green Bay selling airline tickets to travelers. She worked as a ticket agent for 27 years and retired in 1985 working for Republic Airlines, who had bought out North Central.

Working for the airlines brought great travel opportunities for June. She traveled around the United States and to Hawaii six times. She also vacationed overseas and traveled to Europe eight times. A trip to Acapulco brought about a fishing trip where June caught a marlin!

June enjoyed time with family and friends at Lee Lake. One year we surprised her by celebrating "June's Day", since her sister celebrated Mother's Day and her brother celebrated Father's Day. Everyone felt that June deserved a day of celebration too! She water skied, snow skied, and in her later years bowled. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and faithfully watched their games each week. June specifically purchased a cable tv package so she could watch every Packer game while living in NM. During the games, she would call her brother, Jerry, whether she lived in WI or NM, multiple times during each game, to discuss game plays, penalties, and the outcome of the game.

June was a very giving person, having donated over 2 gallons of blood in her lifetime. We, the nieces and nephews, have fond memories of June helping grandma and grandpa with gardening, household chores, meals, etc., especially at the holidays when the whole family was together. Once retired, she continued to care for her father and after his passing she moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico in 1989. She loved the warm weather and living by Sandia Peak. She also found out how busy a retired person can be if they volunteered! Having been a member of the Kiwanis in Wisconsin, June became a member of a service club, Civitan, in New Mexico, holding various offices including president two years in a row. She also volunteered for the hospital auxiliary and worked at the hospital gift shop. She received much recognition from the St. Joseph Healthcare System for her volunteer work. She volunteered for various fundraisers for the City of Rio Rancho and helped at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta on a yearly basis. She clocked many volunteer hours for organizations too numerous to name. June was active in her neighborhood association, Rivers Edge I, holding office for the organization. She also became known as the "Bag Lady". She earned this title after a newspaper article was written about her picking up trash and weeding a 2-mile route in her subdivision on a weekly basis. Always a proud Marine, she was a member of the Women Marines Association - Sandia, NM Chapter, and the American Legion Post 539 - Green Bay, WI.

She is survived by her sister-in-law: Mary Ann Linsmeyer; nieces and nephews: Julie (Joe) Skinkis, Mike Linsmeyer; Jill (Dan) Carey, Patty Linsmeyer (special friend, Doug Kaczorowski), Dick Linsmeyer, Ken Linsmeyer, Amy (Mark) Lahay, Chris (Amy) Linsmeyer, John (Anita) Bishop, Rena (Kyle) Williams, Judy Bishop, Ann Bishop, and Carol (William) Roche.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Linsmeyer; and a sister, Violet (Don) Bishop.

Visitation will take place at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Isaar on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 9:30 am until the funeral Mass at 11:00 am with Fr. Sengole Dass and Deacon Rich Matuszak officiating. Military honors will follow the Mass. Entombment will take place at Nicolet Memorial Gardens, Green Bay, WI.
