Lavern Bunnell, age 72, passed away on his father-in-law's birthday, March 12, 2024 at his home on Chicken Alley after a four year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1969 and enlisted in the Marine Corp from 1969 to 1973. After leaving the service he was a mechanic in Seymour where he met his wife, Chrisy. In 1974 they were married. One thing he always wanted to do was farm and he got his wish. In 1975 Lavern and Chrisy started farming with his father-in-law and mother-in-law and on they went for 49 years.
When they decided to build their house, he had plans he had drawn up in high school that he was very proud of and wanted to use. When the time came, changes needed to be made because his expectations exceeded his checkbook!
They were blessed with six children. He enjoyed singing in the United Methodist Church Choir for over 40 years. He was always running; whether it be for machine parts, to the grocery store, for lottery tickets or food, calf check and to the bank, there was no stopping. He loved his handyman projects and every time he started a project, he got a new toy. Aside from being a joker, he took the time to appreciate his wife with gifts of flowers, rings and Valentine's Day meals. He was most looking forward to celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary and that was his motivation for him to fight so hard until the very end.
He is survived by his wife, Chrisy. Children: Vicky (Scott) Felty, Nicole (Shawn) Stutzman, Guy (Pam) Bunnell, Christopher Bunnell, and Garrison (Kerrie) Bunnell. 10 grandchildren: Emma, Kaitlyn and Andrew Felty; Ivan, Eli and Austin Stutzman; Courtney, Mason, Wyatt and Samantha Bunnell. His father, James Bunnell; siblings: LaVon (Fred) Deshler, Marilyn (James) Dunkel, Joan (Rick) Gerbers, Carol Kreischer, Mark (Angie) Bunnell, Jere (Ro) Bunnell and many other family members.
He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Melissa; mother, Shirley Bunnell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy and Dolores Rusch.
