LaVerne (Reinert) Morgan, 92, passed away at San Luis Manor on Saturday, July 13, 2013, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born November 14, 1920, in the Township of Seneca, as the oldest of 5 children of Ida and Art Reinert. She was married to John "Bill" Morgan in June, 1941. Bill and LaVerne's family grew with the births of 2 girls - Judy and Jean "Punch".
In 1945, Bill and LaVerne assumed ownership of the House of Morgan Grocery Store in the heart of the Village of Oneida. As they were some of the founding members of the businesses in the Village of Oneida, Bill and LaVerne wore many hats - including running the telephone company, fire department, and small lumber yard. What Bill and LaVerne were best known for was being purveyors of fresh bakery products - including homemade bread, donuts, and the forever famous Sticky Buns (pecan rolls), and LaVerne was the baker for the years the store was open. They ran the store together until Bill's death in 1982. After that time, LaVerne continued to run the store for approximately 5 years until she decided to lock the doors and enjoy her retirement. She lived in Oneida for a while after her retirement before going to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Punch and Tom, for over 20 years.
LaVerne enjoyed golfing and she even won a championship trophy at a golf tournament in the Bahamas. She also spent many hours doing counted cross-stitch creations and reading autobiographies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, her husband, and her daughter, Judy. She is survived by her daughter, Jean "Punch" (Tom) Clark; her son-in-law, Gary Seidl; her brother-in-law, Gerry Arnold; her 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and 2 great-great granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
LaVerne's family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers that were part of LaVerne's life in the past years. This includes staff and medical professionals at San Luis Manor Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice. Additional thanks go to the Kurt and Joel at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home for their assistance.
