Lee James "Snuffy" Schmit, age 84, passed away on March 21, 2022 at Good Shepherd in Seymour. He was born on August 16, 1937 a son of the late Joseph and Martha (Hansen) Schmit.
Lee attended Seymour Grade School and Seymour High School.
He was united in marriage to Betty Roffers on August 23, 1958.
Lee joined the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department where he proudly served for 53 years. He also volunteered for and worked at the Outagamie County Fairs.
Lee was employed at Seidl Auto Body for 25 years. Every car had to have a perfect white glove finish which he was very proud of. He then worked at Seymour Community Schools in maintenance from where he retired.
In 1978 Lee and Betty built and worked on their present home surrounded by the best neighbors. He was always proud of his home and property. Lee traveled many places north, south, east, and west by auto with Betty and the family. He even traveled Europe in a rental car along with dear friends Roger and Judy.
He loved making things from wood and taking rusty gas pumps and refurbishing them. When the gas pumps got too heavy he started refurbishing peddle cars and peddle tractors.
He is survived by wife, Betty; children: Michael (Julie) Schmit, Mark (Sarah) Schmit; grandchildren: Alyssa and Aurora; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: David (Claire) Roffers, Harley (Nancy) Roffers, Gary (Carolyn) Roffers, Joseph Roffers, Jean Roffers, Linda (Gary) Halase. Lee is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Schmit; sisters: Fern (Ludwig) Schroeder, Irene (Leonard) Zuleger; and brother, LeVern (Marion) Schmit; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Willard Roffers, James (Ruth Ann) Roffers, Bob Roffers, Michael Roffers, and his buddy, Shasta.
Visitation will take place at St. John Catholic Church, Seymour on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 9:00 am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am with Fr. Sengole Arockia Dass, O.Praem and Deacon Rich Matuszak officiating. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery.
