ZULEGER, LESTER L.
Lester L. Zuleger, age 93, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born September 13, 1915 to the late Edward and Anna (Drephal) Zuleger in the Black Creek area, where he grew up and spent most of his life.
He served four years in the Army during World War II achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division in Europe. Lester was awarded the Bronze Star. After his service, he was a Black Creek VFW and American Legion Member.
Lester married Fern Schmidt and together they farmed in the Nichols area, and raised four children. Fern preceded him in death in 1991.
During his life Lester was active in the community. He served on the Nichols Coop Board of Directors, the Spring Brook School Board and the Cicero Town Board. Lester was an avid baseball fan. Over the years he enjoyed playing for and later watching the Nichols baseball team and was an avid follower of the Milwaukee Braves and the Brewers. He also enjoyed fishing, spending many hours on Shawano Lake. After retiring, Lester and Fern enjoyed camping, traveling, taking bus trips as well as cruises and visiting Hawaii. He spent many hours in his later years playing cards.
Lester is survived by his loving children including, Robert (Mary Ellen) Zuleger, Wausau; Patricia (Peter) Chard, Pelican Lake; Betty (Jeff) Volkman, Marshfield and Terry (Cory) Zuleger, Oneida; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law: Mabel and Eileen Zuleger of Black Creek.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Milton, Edward (Marion) and Vernon.
Friends may call at St. John's United Church of Christ, Black Creek Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 9:30 AM until funeral services at 11:30 AM with Rev. Don Bauman officiating. Military Honors will follow the service at church. Burial at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour assisting the family. A memorial will be established at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Meadow Wood Residential Care Apartments, Seymour, for their care and kindness.
