Lois Joyce (Pashouwer) Smith, 81, of Shawano, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Monday, June 23, 2014 at Shawano Medical Center. She was born February 20, 1933 daughter of the late Lionel and Joyce (Gallagher) Hodgins. On April 24, 1951 she married Harvey Pashouwer who preceded her in death on May 6, 2014. On November 3, 1978 she was united in marriage to Howard Smith Jr at West Side Moravian Church, Green Bay. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2013.
Lois farmed with her first husband. Later together with her family, owned, and operated the Lena Restaurant, during this time she obtained her pilot license at the age of 35 she inspired her daughter and granddaughter to continue her legacy of flying. She along with her husband, Howard Smith of 35 years owned, and operated a commercial rabbit farm in Seymour. Lois is a member, and past treasurer of the Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling to Israel. She was an active member of the Shawano Area Writer's Group, and wrote many articles for the Shawano Leader, and other publications. She recently completed a book of her life story. She will be remembered as a mother to many other children, with Howard being her oldest.
She is survived by her children: Mimi Hatton (special friend, Dean), Kathy (Steve) Bruger, Robin (Charlie) Henn, Ann (Carl) Van Gheem, John (Kathy) Pashouwer, Bob (Beth) Pashouwer, Mary (Robert) Holtz, Cal Pashouwer (special friend, Dawn), Linda Lange (special friend, Bob), Dan (Lisa) Smith, Ron Smith, Julie (Mike) Hert; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Lois is further survived by a sister, June Adekunle; two brothers-in-law: Gordon (Marilyn) Smith and Clyde (Barb) Smith; two sisters-in-law: Nora (Gene) Corey and Phyllis Gerrits; and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia; son, Anthony; brother, Ronald Hodgins; brother-in-law, Roy Smith.
Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 3 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. with Pastor Marian Boyle officiating. Burial will take place at the West Side Moravian Cemetery, Ashwaubenon.
