Margaret Ann "Maggie" Smet, 87, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025 at her daughter's residence in Seymour.
She was born August 21, 1937 to Norbert and Elizabeth (Spierings) Micke.
She married Clarence Smet on June 11, 1958, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Wrightstown, WI. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage. Clarence preceded her in death on October 8, 2018.
Margaret was a full-time wife and mother and helped out on the farm. She cooked part time at the Edgewood and as a lunch server at school. She enjoyed cross-stitch projects, bowling, playing Scrabble, playing cards with neighbors and family, gardening and visiting with her children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors.
She is survived by seven children: Thomas Smet and children, Craig (Katie) and Adam (Andrea) Smet and Tom's special friend, Jean; Susanne Christensen and children, Nicole (Grant) Hanson; Paul (Caitlin) Christensen; Jerrod (Kayleigh) Christensen; Gary (Andrea) Christensen, Janice (Collin) Terrell and their father Bob Christensen; Joanne (Leonard) Smurawa and children, Trisha (Bob) Simpson; Erica Smurawa; Robert (Ginnie) Smet and son Clayton; Linda (Michael) Nolan; Laura (Jeff) Hofacker and children, Lathan and Rachel Hofacker; John Smet and children, Kylee, Evan and Logan Smet and John's special friend Brenda.
Further survived by sisters, brothers, and in-laws: Rosemary Van Eperen; Carol (Gerald) Ederer; Patty (Bob) Gerend; Helen Fritsch; Robert Micke; Betty (Charles) Headings; Mary (Jim) Micke-Dickrell; Kathy (Paul) Miller; William (Jean) Micke; sisters-in law Delores Micke; Margaret Bowers; and brother-in-law Francis Smet; 13 great grandchildren plus 1 on the way in November 2025, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and many furry friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law Peter and Katherine Smet; brother Eugene, sister Marion (the late Brian) Grode; in-laws, Gerald Van Eperen, Bob Fritsch; Katherine (the late Clement) Schlimm; Josephine (the late John) Wallace; Hortense (the late Raymond) Van Handel; Joseph (the late Ceil) Smet; Edward Smet; Germaine Smet; Marion Smet and Norman Bowers; daughter-in-law Sue Smet, grandson Dalton Brokiewicz; granddaughter Hope Elizabeth Hofacker; and numerous relatives, friends, and furry friends.
Friends may call at St. John Catholic Church, Seymour, on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 4 pm until 7 pm with a parish prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 9:00 am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am with Fr. Brian Belongia and Deacon Rich Matuszak officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Margaret's family would like to thank the staff at St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care during Margaret's illness, especially Traci, Stephanie K., Stephanie G., and Christin. A special thank you to Joanne and Lenny for caring for mom in her final days.
Mom, we humbly thank you for putting up with our shenangins throughout the years. We love you, miss you and will never forget you. Say hi to Pa for us.
