Marie Giamarino

November 1, 1919 — October 6, 2015

Marie V. Giamarino, 95, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday evening, October 6, 2015 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. She was born November 1, 1919, daughter of the late Edward and Marie (Semelka) Srotyr. Born and raised in Cicero, IL where as a child she held a paper route that, as the story goes, included the Capone Brothers. Growing up during the Great Depression Marie acquired the values of hard work, determination and the value of a dollar.
On April 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to David A. Giamarino Jr. They were married for 58 years till David's death in 2003. Marie met David where they both worked at a screw factory in Chicago. A favorite date was fishing on the banks of the Fox River in St. Charles, IL. Marie and David moved to Lisle, IL to start a family. They were active in the Foster Care Program where they cared for 22 foster children before adopting two children of their own; Edward and David III.
Besides her love of children, Marie enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, crafts and collecting angels of all types. As the kids grew, Marie held several jobs outside the house. She retired from Vaughn Seed Company in 1982 where she was able to bring her love of gardening into her occupation. Marie also was a long time member of the Lisle Fire Departments Women's Auxiliary.
Marie and David retired to a lake home on Big Devils Lake in Sarona, WI. There Marie enjoyed everything mother-nature offered, especially when her children and grandchildren would visit. Poor health finally forced Marie to move from her lake home in 2012 to Meadow Wood Assisted Living in Seymour to be close to family and finally to Good Shepherd Home.
Marie is survived by her two sons, Edward and his wife Dawn, along with Marie's two grandchildren Benjamin and Matthew; David and his wife, Vickie; her foster daughter, Dorothy (Dave) Patrick.
She is preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, Edward and William; and one sister, Verna.
In accordance with Marie's wishes no funeral service will be held. Online condolences may be expressed at www.muehlboettcher.com .
Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour is assisting the family with arrangements.
A special thank you to the staff of Meadow Wood Assisted Living, Good Shepherd Home and Heartland Hospice for their care and effort in making Marie feel at home in her final years. A special thanks also to her good neighbors at Big Devils Lake. Especially to Allen, Judy, Bob and Bob Jr. for their ever watchful eye and willingness to lend a helpful hand whenever Marie needed assistance. One of Marie's hobbies was writing poems. She leaves us with this:
My Angels
I love my Angels, one and all,
Some are big, and some are small
I know they watch over me, all year long
They really keep me from doing wrong,
They keep me company, day by day,
If I should be at home, or going away,
My Angels and I always keep in touch
That's why I love them so very much.
