Mary Diemel

September 14, 1935 — July 19, 2024

Mary Louise Diemel, 88, Town of Maine, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2024. She was born on September 14, 1935 to the late Christian and Angarose (Wilfuer) Peeters. Mary was united in marriage to Haze Diemel on April 26, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bear Creek. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2022.

Mary and Haze owned and operated Diemel's Resort for 30 years until their retirement in 2002. Mary loved everything about her livelihood there, from opening the bar up early so the neighbors could play sheepshead, to every detail needed for an upcoming wedding. But most of all she loved her people, and was always there for them, giving her the nickname "Mother Mary". Her petunias were always planted, her cookie jar was always full. She had a great love for the Green Bay Packers and Brewers and rarely missed watching a game. Mary was very proud of her family. The bigger it grew, the bigger her heart became. Mary was a person that loved everyone she met, and everyone loved her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were definitely her pride and joy.

She is survived by her children: Douglas (Barb) Diemel, Diane (Gary) Shepard, Dan Diemel, Denise (Keith) Clegg, and Doreen (Jerry) Van Handel; nine grandchildren: Douglas Jr. (Ginger) Diemel, Jennifer (Josh) Tabbert, Kristy (Tim) Pigott, Angela (Tom) Neubert, Aly Clegg (special friend, Michael Hanson), Abby (Hunter) Muthig, Landyn Van Handel, Amber Van Handel (special friend, Kyle Larsen), and Koltyn Van Handel (special friend, Brianna Stenz); 17 great-grandchildren: Annika Diemel, Isaiah, Noah, Bella, Sam, and Ben Tabbert, Khailee, and Karley Pack, Kinleigh, Ayeleigh, and Tucker Pigott, Austyn and Ashlee Neubert, Haze , Rhett, and Otto Larsen; four step-grandchildren: Dennis (Abby) Seelow, Aaron (Niki) Seelow, Joe (Tori) Bloechl, and Sheyenne Pigott; eight step-great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Laurie) Peeters; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Peeters; brother-in-law, Joseph Stilen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Khiara Pack; brothers: Bob (Bette) Peeters and Bill Peeters; sisters: Kathy (Jerry) Senzig and Pat (Dave) Pues; and sister-in-law, Marcille Stilen.
