Mary Murphy

February 21, 1957 — June 26, 2022

Mary Ann Murphy, 65, Freedom, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Sunday, June 26, 2022. She was born on February 21, 1957, to the late Lloyd and Margaret (Splingaire) DeBruin, and attended Seymour High School. Mary Ann was united in marriage to David "Cal" Murphy on August 24, 1974, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom, and the couple celebrated over 40 years together. Cal preceded Mary Ann in death on December 3, 2014.

She was a lifelong member of St. Nicolas Catholic Church; Mary Ann was extremely committed to her faith. Despite her health struggles, Mary Ann was very giving to others. She devoted her life to helping those in need. Mary Ann enjoyed volunteering at Good Shepherd Services in Seymour.

She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Mary Ann found her peace while up north, in her backyard, or around a campfire. She was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. Mary Ann also liked refurbishing antiques, playing the Juke Box, and playing Farkle with family and friends. Her greatest passion in life was spending time with her family. Mary Ann's brownies and cookies will be missed.

She is survived by her two sons: Michael (Jennifer) Murphy, and Jeffrey Murphy; seven grandchildren: Tyler, Ashley, Dylan, Jadin, Corbin, Leland, and Kaia; one greatgrandson, Kingsley; siblings: Helen (Ron) Meidam, Barb (Mike) Diedrick, Gloria (Ralph) Calaway, John (Diana) DeBruin, Elaine (Gary) Fleishman, Roger DeBruin, and Jerry (Linda) DeBruin; brothers-in-law: Pat Murphy, Gary (Janice) Murphy, Brian (Rachel) Murphy, and Scott (Jane) Murphy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ralph and Gladys (Hock) Murphy; one brother, Harry (LaVerne) DeBruin; one sister-in-law, Vonny DeBruin; and two infant brothers-in-law: Marty and Jeff Murphy.

Visitation will take place at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:30 p.m., Monsignor Jim VandenHogen officiating, Deacon Gary Vanness assisting. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

The family extends a special thanks to the staff of ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their compassionate care. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Helen and Ron Meidam, Gloria and Ralph Calaway, and John and Diana DeBruin for all of their help and concern over the years. Mary Ann was blessed with an amazing family, and those who lived far away always gave her spiritual support. Lastly, a special thanks to Bob Murphy, who was like a son to Mary Ann.
