Michael S. Hauge, age 72, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at his home in Seymour. He was born July 20, 1945, in Madison, to the late Melvin and Claire (Coffey) Hauge. He married Christina "Tina" Kramp on July 11, 1975, which began the beautiful 42-year love story that inspired all those around them.
Mike, affectionately known to those who love him as Big Guy, was a man of many talents, but he was most proud of being father to his two daughters, Amanda and Molly. In addition to being the greatest dad in human history (scholars will likely write about it for centuries), he was also an incredible, Golden Apple Award winning educator. Mike taught history at Westfield High School early in his career, where he then moved on to teach the same subject for several more decades at Green Bay Southwest. Furthering his commitment to his students, Mike coached hundreds of young athletes through the sports of football and golf.
Sports were a passion for Mike, and his love for his Milwaukee Brewers remains unrivaled. When the Crew win the World Series, be assured he will have had a hand in it. He loved nothing more than to see a Packers linebacker make a hard, clean hit, and he cheered on the Badgers all year long. He played competitively in the Monday Night Men's League at Crystal Springs Golf Course for over 40 years and was an avid gardener, hunter and outdoorsman. Mike lived to pheasant hunt with his brothers and nephews in South Dakota, and deer and turkey hunt throughout his beloved Wisconsin. As many family members can attest, 'Uncle Mike' hunting stories are the stuff of legend.
Later in his life, Mike was diagnosed with Familial Amyloidosis. He was recruited for a clinical drug study and was the longest living survivor in the United States. His brave participation and commitment to the research will help not only his family, but countless others in the future battle against this rare disease.
Mike is survived by his wife, Tina; children, Amanda (Gordon Dodson) Hauge and Molly (Kyle) McCauley; sister, Mary (Stan) Wagner; brother, Thomas (Mary Jon); brother-in-law, Dick Lubinsky; mother-in-law, Dorine Kramp; brother-in-law, Mark (Mary) Kramp; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty; brother, Robert (Djehane); father-in-law, Ted Kramp, and brother-in-law, Chris.
