Nolan Volkman

October 27, 1915 — January 25, 2009

Nolan W. Volkman, age 93, Black Creek, entered his heavenly home early Sunday morning, January 25 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born October 27, 1915, in the Town of Black Creek, son of the late William Sr. and Anna (Kettner) Volkman. Nolan was united in marriage to Ethel Henke on November 28, 1940. She preceded him in death October 12, 2002.

Nolan was a devote Christian and faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Black Creek. He farmed in the Town of Bovina and Town of Center until his retirement. His gentle and easy going spirit made him loved by all that met him. Nolan served on the Center Valley Cooperative Board, Board of Regents Fox Valley Lutheran School, served on the church council and various other committees. He enjoyed playing polka music by ear with his accordion and also played violin, drums, trombone, harmonica and piano. He enjoyed dreaming of fishing as he worked in his apple orchard. He had a love for animals.

He is survived by his children: Jean (Ronald) Hinkfuss, Bonduel, Ellen (Verlin) Sellin, Waupaca, Ralph (Sandy) Volkman, Black Creek, Linda (Dennis) Tiedt, Appleton, and Lance (Mary Jo) Volkman, Black Creek, twenty grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He is further survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Arthur Henke, Rita Volkman and Dorothy Henke.

Preceded in death by three brothers: Orval, William Jr., and Lyle; one sister, Beulah Brugger; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church Black Creek on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, from 4 until 8 pm and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11 am with Pastor Steve Schlicht and Pastor John Brandt officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, is assisting the family. On line condolences may be made at www. muehlboettcher.com.
