Norman R. “Butts” Hartwig, 73, of Black Creek, passed away Monday morning, April 9, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 29, 1944, son of the late Norman F. and Flora (Hintz) Hartwig.
Butts graduated from Seymour High School prior to enlisting in the US Navy, having served for four years. He was a member of the Black Creek American Legion.
On May 20, 1972 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Ziesemer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Black Creek. He remained a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Butts began working for Outagamie County in January, 1972 and he retired in 2003 following 31 years of service and also worked for RJM Construction for 10 more years.
He loved to fish, having made regular trips with Bonnie to Minnesota for over 20 years. Butts also played slow pitch softball, enjoyed golfing, and was a member of the Black Creek Fire Department. Butts enjoyed watching NASCAR races.
Norman is survived by his wife, Bonnie; siblings: Laverna Kitzinger, Jane Steck, Virgie (Red) Sievert, and Joyce (Wayne) Hein; sister-in-law: Judy (Larry) Minta; nephew, Michael (Sharon) Minta; niece, Becky (Matt) Steeno; other nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law: Vernon “Tiny” Kitzinger, Gordon Steck, and David Ward; nephew, Keith Ward.
Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Saturday, April 14, 2018, from 9:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor John Brandt officiating. Black Creek American Legion Post #332 will conduct military honors. Burial will take place in the Freedom Community Cemetery, Freedom.
