Orvell A. De Bruin, 92, of Seymour passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home with his family by his side. He was born July 1, 1922 son of the late John Edward and Hattie (Green) De Bruin. On July 31, 1943 he was united in marriage to Rose Marye Mory. She preceded him in death January 30, 2012.
Orvell was a graduate of the of Seymour High School class of 1940. He farmed until his retirement and was a World War II Army Veteran. Orvell was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Seymour. He was ordained May 16, 1981 to the Permanent Deaconate by Bishop Wycislo at the Cathedral in Green Bay. He served at St. John Catholic Church for many years.
Orvell was the Rural Life Director for Diocese, Diocesan Rural Life Grant Program, Advocate for Marriage Tribunal, Parish Council St. Johns for 30 years, Chaplain Knights of Columbus Seymour, Parish Trustee and Treasurer for 12 years, Seymour Area Clergy Association, he and his wife Rose Marye started St. Vincent De Paul Conference at St. Johns, County Committee Farmers Home Administration, American Legion, VFW and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. In 1991 he was named Seymour's Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Survivors include his children: Elizabeth Birling, Green Bay; David (Mary) De Bruin, Seymour; Steve De Bruin, Algoma; Debra Rosin, Green Bay; Dennis De Bruin (special friend Terri), Appleton; grandchildren: Anthony ( Pamela) Birling, Andrew Birling, Amy Birling, Amanda (special friend Andy) Birling, Sarah (Justin) Goetz, Katie (Aaron) Galarowicz, Joshua (Tiffany) De Bruin, Angie (Brian) Woolery, Jacqueline De Bruin, Tanya (Jeremy) Peacock, Dennis De Bruin Jr.; great-grandchildren: Zachary, Shelby, Taylor, Jacob, Greame and Austin; brother, Ervin (Millie) De Bruin, Appleton; sister, Lucille Werth, Appleton; sisters-in-law: Peggy Mory, Arizona; Helen Nelson, Ft. Worth, Texas; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tom Birling; daughters-in-law: Sharon De Bruin and Patti De Bruin brother, Lloyd (Margaret) De Bruin; sister, Mabel (Lloyd) Wagner; brothers-in-law: Tom Nelson, Ralph Mory, sisters-in-law: Margaret De Bruin, Roberta (Robert) Mory.
Friends may call at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Seymour on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 4-8 PM and prayer service at 7:30 PM and on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Church from 9:30 AM until Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM with Mgrs. James Dillenburg and Fr. Bob Kabat officiating. Burial will take place in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Seymour. Military Honors will follow at the cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at
