Phyllis Springstroh

May 5, 1930 — February 4, 2021

Phyllis Mae Springstroh, 90, Freedom, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Brewster Village in Appleton.  She was born May 5, 1930, to the late Lester and Hilda (Loevenhagen) Snell.  She was united in marriage to Earl E. Springstroh on September 25, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Appleton.  Earl preceded Phyllis in death on January 2, 2009.

Phyllis was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of St. Peter Sharing and Caring ministry for 20 years, and she also belonged to the OWLS organization.  Phyllis served as a branch officer for Aid Association for Lutherans for 10 years. She was also a 4-H leader, where she taught sewing.  Phyllis found joy in working the dairy bar at the Outagamie County Fair.  She loved gardening, and enjoyed cooking. Phyllis was a caring person, and she always was willing to help their neighbors.  She delivered meals on wheels for years, which she found to be very rewarding.  Her greatest passion was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Phyllis and Earl were small time farmers all of their married life.  The couple loved horses and other animals; they enjoyed going to horse pulls and were members of the Fox Valley Horse Driving Association.  They also liked fishing and going to their cottage in Iola.

Survivors include six children: Linda (John) Schuh, Navarino; Gary Springstroh, Neenah; Jennie (Mike) Stoop, Appleton; Jeanne Aad, Colorado; Thomas J. (Kaye) Springstroh, Kaukauna; and Bradley (Laura) Springstroh, Appleton; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five siblings: Norman Snell, Wild Rose; Jean (Carlton) Tiedt, Appleton; Jan Seegers; Sue (John) Hinchley, Neenah; Diane Bowers, Wrightstown; one brother-in-law, Merle Simmons, Appleton; six Godchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Berdine (Brown) Springstroh; three sisters: Lorraine Vanden Bloomer, Patsy (Terry) Howard, and Dory (Stan) Felzer; one brother, Lester Snell; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry Bowers, Doris Snell, Wayne Seegers, and Elsie Simmons.

Friends may call at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Freedom, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2021.  The funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church, Pastor Jim Fleming officiating.  The funeral service will be live streamed on 922 Ministries St. Peter YouTube channel.  Burial will follow in the Freedom Lutheran Community Cemetery.

The family extends a special thanks to the staffs of Brewster Village and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care.
