Richard Hallam

August 12, 1937 — March 19, 2023

Richard "Dick" Hallam, 85, of Seymour, WI passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 overlooking his favorite place on earth: his farm. He was surrounded by his wife and family.

Dick was born on August 12, 1937. He was united in marriage to his loving wife Geraldine Christensen on August 8, 1964. Dick started his working life as a meat cutter for Linsmeyer Packing, before working at Red Owl and eventually Don's Quality market, but his passion was farming. In 1976, with Geraldine by his side, he bought a dairy farm and they built their life around it. He loved his land - there were few moments the farm was not on his mind - and the family he raised on it.

While Dick's passion was farming it was not without its challenges. The hardships and adversity that he faced cemented in place his legacy as the strongest, toughest, most stubborn man any of us ever knew.

Dick loved his 5 children, their spouses and 15 grandchildren very deeply, and was loved dearly in return. From baling hay to celebrating the 4th of July, cutting meat to meals gathered around the table, many family memories were created on his farm. Traditions were important to Dick. The annual Christmas tree hunt and spring sucker fishing were very important to him, but there was no greater tradition than Christmas on the farm with his family. Nothing could compare to the sight of a warm smile on Dick's face upon having the whole family over for Christmas.

Dick enjoyed his life to the fullest in many ways. He spent free time beekeeping, hunting and fishing with his boys. He loved airplanes and sharing pieces of knowledge and funny stories with the many people he crossed paths with. The true love of his life, though, was Geraldine, his wife of 58 years. Dick and Geraldine were soulmates in the truest sense of the word, and were rarely seen apart. Rumor has it they never fought once in those many happy years!

Dick lived a full life without regret. He will be missed greatly. Dick is survived by his wife Geraldine; his five children: Duane and Julie (Seiltz) Hallam, Scott and Vikki (Madison) Hallam, Dick and Tami (Anderson) Hallam, Sally (Hallam) and Nick Letter, and Dale and Sara (Strong) Hallam; his 14 grandchildren: Matthew Hallam, Adam Hallam, Lisa VandenLangenberg, Kayla Hallam, Bobby Hallam, Crystal Jordan, Jarrett Habeck, Makenzie Habeck, Makayla Habeck, Ryan Hallam, Haley Habeck, Dean Hallam, Valerie Letter and Zack Letter; great-grandchildren: Colton Jordan, Laynee Jordan, Jack Hallam, and one due in August; siblings: Cecilia (Wayne) Conrad, Kathleen (Dave) LaCount, George (Linda) Hallam, Carolyn Hallam, Nancy Hallam and William Hallam; sister-in-law, Rosemary Hallam.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Derrick Hallam; parents, Donald and Clara Hallam; brother, Donald C. Hallam; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Henrietta Christensen.
