Richard "Dick" Varney, age 86, of Kimberly, WI and formerly of Marinette, WI passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. He entered the world on April 16, 1938, Bangor, ME, born to the late Joseph and Esther (Chick) Varney.
Dick was united in marriage to Barbara Collier on June 4, 1966 in Portsmith, New Hampshire. He served in the US ARMY in Korea and Germany for 8 1/2 years as a cook.
Before retirement, Richard worked at Scott Paper/Kimberly Clark.
Richard enjoyed camping with his family at JW Wells State Park. He also took his grandchildren camping. Richard loved cooking his famous deep fried chicken. He loved working in his workshop. He could build anything without using a pattern. His grandson, Justin, spent a weekend with him and helped build a cedar chest for grandma.
His grandson, Adam, would go camping and papa would take him fishing. His only granddaughter, Colleen, was the best birthday gift he could get. Colleen was born on his birthday. He called her his Sunshine. Richard would do anything for his family and grandchildren. He was the best father/papa anyone could ever have.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Varney, his two children: Lisa (Lee) Lemke, Black Creek, WI, Scott (Vanassa) Varney, South Beloit, Il.; grandchildren: Justin (Ashley) New Franken, WI, Adam, Black Creek,WI, Colleen (Fiance, Tyler) Black Creek, WI; great-granddaughter: Emberly; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his siblings: Theresa Varney, Francis (Tina) Varney, Josie (Dan) Morrison, and Daniel (Pat) Varney.
Visitation for Dick will take place at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, 358 S. Main Street, Seymour on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Deacon Rich Matuszak officiating. Entombment will take place at Forest Home Mausoleum in Marinette.
