Rita H. Becher, 91, of Seymour, passed away Monday morning, March 19, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family following a brief fight with cancer. She was born July 29, 1926 daughter of the late Earl and Catherine (Van Asten) Nichols.
On October 19, 1944 she was united in marriage to Francis Becher. He preceded her death on August 28, 1994.
Rita was a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church in Seymour.
She drove school bus for Huettl’s for 39 years and enjoyed all of the students throughout the years, having transported a few generations of kids.
Rita enjoyed birds, watching the chickens, flowers, and all of her pets throughout the years. The very most important thing to Rita was raising her family and watching all of her grandchildren grow.
She is survived by her children: Mary (John) Valenta, Frank (Jean) Becher, Ray (Lil) Becher, Larry Becher, Marcie (Phillip) Stover, Alice (Lyle) Burmeister, and Joe Becher; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Joosten; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons: Glenn Becher and Jeffrey Stephani; great-great-grandson, Ryder Wilson; brother, Cyril Joosten; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 4-8 pm, with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue at St. John Catholic Church, Seymour on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 9:30 am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am with Father Brian Belongia and Deacon Rich Matuszak officiating. Burial will take place in parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Rita’s memory.
