Rita Volkman

Rita G. Volkman, 93, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2016 at her one and only earthly home, the family farm. She was born April 20, 1923, daughter of the late John and Anna (Klitzke) Henke.
On May 15, 1943 she was united in marriage to Lyle Volkman. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1990.
Rita was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Town of Center, having been baptized, confirmed, and married there.
Rita was an avid writer, belonging to a writer's club and having many published articles. She was also active in 4-H for many years as a club leader.
Rita loved people and praying for the well-being of others. She loved polka music, dancing, and playing cards with her friends.
She is survived by her son, Harlan (Shari) Volkman; two daughters: Faye (Pat) Sheppard and Donna Pomeroy; daughter-in-law, Lois Volkman; 16 grandchildren: Sheila (Clint) Wickesberg, Peg (Dan) Skotzke, Keith (Heather) Volkman, Jamie (Kristy) Volkman, Jen (John) Pintar, Gary (Tiffany) Volkman, Scott (Nicole) Volkman, Julie (Bill) Bickel, Kim (Dave) Anderson, Kevin (Nicole) McNiesh, Kyle McNiesh, Ray Sheppard, Richard Sheppard, Jessica Hinske, Rachel (Lane) Kufner, and Tom (Carissa) Pomeroy; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene (Jerry) Hunt; many nieces and nephews.
Rita is preceded in death by her son, Robert "Bob" Volkman and son-in-law, Tom Pomeroy; husband's parents: William Sr. and Anne Volkman; brothers-in-law: Orval (Catherine) Volkman, William Jr. (Alice) Volkman, Nolan (Ethel) Volkman; sister-in-law, Beulah (Bob) Brugger; grandson-in-law, Gary Hinske.
Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Center, from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Suhr officiating.
