Roger Grode

May 25, 1941 — January 18, 2022

Roger Ralph Grode, 80, of Appleton passed away on January 18, 2022 due to complications of a recent stroke with family by his side. Roger was born on May 25, 1941, son of the late Willard and Aurelia (Schmaltz) Grode. Roger married Judy Stingle on August 19, 1961, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary last year. Together, they raised four children.

Roger graduated from Hortonville High School in 1959. He proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1962. Roger worked at Ron Friebel's City Service in Appleton until June of 1967 when he and Judy leased their own gas station/repair shop on the corner of 54 and 55 in Seymour. In 1969, they purchased the station across the street where they worked until 1981. Roger experienced a stroke in 1981, but that didn't limit him from helping others and maintaining a lawn care business. They moved to Black Creek and retired in 2008.

Roger enjoyed his time working side by side with Judy, camping, fishing, and traveling. He was also very proud of his garden. He loved to grow roses and tomatoes. He was happy to share his tomatoes with anyone who needed them. Roger and Judy shared many trips together. Their last memorable trip was down Route 66 to see the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; children: Connie (Bob) Rankin, Sturgeon Bay; Diane (Brian) Nackers, Neenah; Tim (Leonia) Grode, Clarksville, TN; and Brenda (Stephen) Manley, Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren: Connie (Bernie) Kuske, Patti (Craig) Sigl, Dan (Ashley) Rankin, Katie (Craig) Burri, Ben (Sarah) Nackers, Tyler (Katie) Nackers, Heather (Jarrett) Watson, Chris Stout, Zachary Kellner, Mackenzie Kellner, Emily Kellner, Jordan Kellner, and Noah Manley. Great-grandchildren: Carley and Bryce Kuske, Jonathan and Eddie Sigl, Alex and Emma Rankin, Adalyn, Olivia and Hazel Burri, Emma, Eli, Aaron, and Wyatt Kunst.

Roger is further survived by his brothers: Floyd and Rene (Lois) Grode; brother-in-law, Ray Nussbaum; aunt, Gloria Grode; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, David; siblings: Audrey (Grode) Nussbaum and Myron Grode; sister-in-law: Norma Grode; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Loretta Schwister; brother-in-law, Larry Stingle; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
