Roger Habeck

September 20, 1929 — June 30, 2015

Roger "Rog" R. Habeck, 85, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday morning, June 30, 2015 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. He was born September 20, 1929, son of the late Julius and Lenora (Jesse) Habeck. Roger was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour.
Roger graduated from Shawano High School and entered the US Army from March, 1951 to March, 1953. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Bonduel American Legion Post #217 for over 50 years, having served as Commander.
He was united in marriage to Esther Hoppe on February 15, 1958. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1990. Roger later married Shirley Warner Abel on December 13, 1992 in Texas.
Roger worked as a licensed cheesemaker at Frazer Corners for many years prior to working at Fort Howard paper mill, retiring in 1990.
Throughout the years Roger enjoyed "wheeling and dealing", having owned over 40 different cars and motorcycles. He also was an avid card player and was able to play almost any card game. In his younger days he had many different boats and liked the occasional fishing trip.
Roger loved riding his motorcycle, even taking a trip on the bike with Shirley to Alaska. The couple also enjoyed their winters in Texas. It wasn't uncommon for Roger and his friends to take off on spur of the moment motorcycle trips. More than anything, he loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; four daughters: Sue (Aaron) Burmeister, Seymour; Nancy (Bill) Goeben, Seymour; Mary (Scott) Rusch, Shawano; Karen (Fred) Herman, Black Creek; 10 grandchildren: Heather Rusch, Ben (Amanda) Burmeister, Samantha Goeben, Bradley Burmeister, M.D., Whitney (Ben) Arndt, Chris (Nikki) Goeben, Elizabeth, Emily, Kristina, and Eric Herman; great-granddaughter, Kynzlee Mae Arndt; two expected great-grandchildren; 7 step-children: Sharon Abel, Kathleen (Charles) Wendt, Barbara (Steve) Frank, Julie Abel, LeRoy Abel, Kevin Abel, and Scott (Lisa) Abel; 16 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren. Further survived by two brothers: Lee (Sandy) Habeck and Dave (Barb) Habeck, both of Shawano; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Vernal (Shirley) Habeck; and sister, Elaine (Lloyd) Darling.
