Roger Robert Hanson, 81, of Seymour, died on Monday morning, August 27, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital following heart surgery. He was born March 5, 1937, the son of the late Alfred and Catherine (Mueller) Hanson.
He grew up on a dairy farm in the Town of Almon and learned woodworking from his grandfather, a hobby he enjoyed in his retirement years.
Roger loved the Brewers, Packers, deer hunting, playing cards, and tending his flower gardens.
He married Judith Ann Barbara Hartleben on July 9, 1960 in Tigerton. They moved to Seymour in 1962.
Roger was employed at the local cheese factory near Bowler for seven years, was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard, the Red Arrow Unit for nine years, was called to active duty from 1961-1962 being stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. He began a career at Appleton Coated Paper Company, working until his retirement in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Judy; his four children: Steve (Leslie) of White Lake; Tim (Bonnie) of Black Creek; Sue Ellen (Mike) Froehlich, Seymour; and Tina Hanson, Seymour; grandchildren: Danny, Sherri, Michael Jr., Robin, Dorothy, Brian, Kelly, and Molly; eight great-grandchildren: Kaci, Allie, Lilly, Michelle, Michael, Jace, Rylyn, and Veya. He is further survived by a sister, Annette (Armond) Schmidt, Caroline; sisters-in-law, Joann Leisgang, Jackie (Louie) Schmidt; brother-in-law, Jim (Rhonda) Hartleben.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Roger and Dorothy Hartleben; and brother-in-law, Frank Leisgang.
Friends may call at St. John’s Catholic Church, Seymour on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 9:30 am until the mass at 11:30 am with Father Brian Belongia and Deacon Rich Matuszak officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
