Roger C. 'Butch' Neuman 1933-2013
Roger Neuman, 79, passed away on March 7, 2013. He was born on December 10, 1933 in Tigerton, WI to Ernest and Viola (Gayhart) Neuman.
After spending some time growing up on the family farm in Tigerton, the family moved to Shawano where Roger was confirmed at St. James Lutheran Grade School. He graduated from Shawano High School after spending nearly a year in Theda Clark Hospital due to complications from Guillian-Barre Syndrome.
In 1960, Roger married Sandra (Hoppe) at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She preceded him in death in 1990. Roger attended St. Louis Seminary (LCMS) and later graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science. He was a Funeral Director in Shawano. Roger was very involved in St. James Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Elders, Pastor Call Committee and was a Bible Study Leader for the Bethel Series. Roger was a former member of the Shawano Lake Lions Club. Roger enjoyed his morning coffee, first at the Patio Restaurant and later, McDonald's. He was well-known throughout the Shawano area and enjoyed handing out candy to people he would meet.
One of Roger's greatest joys was the opportunity to attend gatherings with his sisters and their families. Roger's nieces and nephews were very dear to him. Because Roger faced serious health issues as a teenager, his faith in God and humor strengthened his resolve throughout his life.
Roger is survived by three sons and their spouses, Jed and Patty Neuman, Green Bay; Chad and Michelle Neuman, Neenah; and Josh and Amy Neumann, Shawano; six grandchildren, Walker and Conner Neuman, Andrew and Rebekah Neuman and Hannah and Nathaniel Neumann; one sister, Germaine Wisnefske, Bowler; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Joan Hoppe and Bob and Corinne Hoppe, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sandra, her parents, Carl and Irene (Jolitz) Hoppe and his sister, Delores 'Pootsal' Grosskopf, as well as, his brothers-in-law, Wally Grosskopf and Mel Wisnefske.
Family and friends can gather at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano for a visitation on March 12, 2013 from 3 pm until services at 5 pm with Pastor Ted Andrada and Seminarian Sol Grosskopf officiating.
Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.muehlboettcher.com .
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Roger's name for the St. James Lutheran School Endowment Fund.
Roger's family extends deep gratitude and thanks to the staff at Maple Lane Heath Care Center for their wonderful compassion, understanding and care. Also, the family would like to thank those of you who spent time visiting with Roger. You know who you are and we are extremely grateful for all you did. Special thanks to the nieces and nephews, you were loved dearly by dad.
