Roy Porter, 76, of Seymour, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Seymour, with his family at his side. He was born May 4, 1938, son of the late Roy and Lela (Rynders) Porter. On February 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joan Abel. She preceded him in death in 1990. Roy married Nancy Gomm on May 11, 1995.
Roy was a 1956 graduate of Seymour High School and attended the University of Wisconsin.
From 1965 to 1985 he own and operated the Seymour IGA Store. In 1984 Roy established and operated the Seymour Dairy Queen and in 1988, he started the Pulaski Dairy Queen operating them until his retirement.
Roy was named Seymour's Outstanding Citizen of the Year and received the Golden Apple Partnership Award for supporting school activities. He was involved in various community organizations and volunteered his time for many projects around Seymour. The past 18 years he and Nancy spent their winters in Arizona and pursued his hobbies of woodworking.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy; children: Jodi (Jon) Braun, Seymour; Sara Jahnke, Oconto Falls; Ryan (Jess) Porter, Franklin, Massachusetts; Grandchildren; Kelly(Jim)Johnson, Freedom ; Andy Braun, Oshkosh; Ben (Kimberly) Braun, Seymour; Lauren (Jeff) Jones, Green Bay; Carrie (fiancAC.e Matt) Jahnke, Neenah; Michael Jahnke, Oconto Falls; William Porter, Franklin Mass.; great-grandson, Frederick Johnson; Nancy's family: Tim (Karen) Gomm and their children, Holly (Kevin) VandenLangenberg and Trevor, and Randy (Kris) Gomm and their children, Kyle, Brittni, Erika and Meghan Gomm; brother, Robert (Mary) Porter, CA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Doug Hamilton, Donald Abel, Margaret Ashmann, Bruce (Jean) Burmeister, Jim (Carla) Burmeister.
Preceded in death by a son-in-law, Paul Jahnke; two sisters: Gladys (Sheldon) Wiesler and Mildred Hamilton.
Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. and visitation will continue on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church from 9:00 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Natalie Kramer officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.
