Ruth Tubbs-Schultz, age 93, of Seymour died June 20, 2010 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Born December 19, 1916 in West Allis, WI to Edward and Theresa Ossmann. She graduated from West Allis High School in June 1933 and UW Milwaukee in August 1937. After teaching 5th grade in Kohler Elementary School from 1937 to 1940, she married Vernon Tubbs on July 27, 1940. They farmed in the Town of Cicero on Cty Trk X until 1967, then moved around the corner on Hwy 55. They moved to Seymour in September 1990, after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Vernon died in June, 1991. After a lonely 5 ½ years Ruth married Leon Schultz in January 1997. Leon died on September 20, 1999.
Ruth was active in the Seymour United Methodist Church. She served as State President of the United Methodist Women from 1972 to 1976. She belonged to Good Shepherd Volunteers and served on the board.
Ruth is survived by 4 children: Peter (Sandra) Tubbs, Oneida,, Miriam (Alan) Burchell, Ray, Minnesota, Ione Dorschner, Hortonville, Eleanor (Roger) Borre, Clintonville; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Rachel Dumke, Appleton.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; 1 grandchild; her brothers Edward and Carl and their wives; her sister Marian Reid and husband; in-laws Harriet and Melvin Marcks; Arthur Dumke; and her Costa Rican daughter-in-love Rosemary Vargas Quesada.
Ruth was a terrific mom passing on many skills, practicality and common sense, and encouraging her family to explore the world around them. She reached out to many, helping families new to the area feel they had a home in the Seymour community. The love and encouragement reached well beyond our family. Her warm personality was evident to the end.
Friends may call at Seymour United Methodist Church, 721 Pleasant Way, Seymour, WI 54165, on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 4 PM to 8 PM and on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 2 PM to 3 PM at the church until services at 3 PM with Pastor Rebecca Henry officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
